More than 1,500 Astroworld victims file complaints and demand $ 10 billion in damages

The mountain of lawsuits filed Travis ScottLast month’s disastrous Astroworld Music Festival got even bigger this week.

The latest complaints were issued by a Houston lawyer Brent Coon, who confirmed Monday that his law firm had filed more than 1,500 cases on behalf of the victims of Astroworld. Coon said he is seeking $ 10 billion in damages on behalf of his clients.

“What happened at Astroworld was an unacceptable tragedy and it is important that justice be served for all those affected,” the lawyer wrote in a press release. “We’re going to roll over every stone in this case. “

Astroworld death toll rose to 10 in mid-November at age 9 Ezra Blount succumbed to his injuries after being trampled by spectators who rushed onto the stage during the event. Hundreds more were injured during the November 5 concert.

As of November 14, more than 100 lawsuits had already been filed against Scott, event planning company Live Nation and other Astroworld organizers. Last week, the total rose to 275 lawsuits, according to TMZ.

Scott’s offer to pay part of the funeral costs of Astroworld attendees who lost their lives was rejected by several families of the victims in late November. Last week, the rapper’s attorneys issued a “blanket denial” to all related civil suits in court documents asking a judge to dismiss a specific lawsuit filed by an Astroworld spectator. Scott and the organizers of Astroworld have faced criticism for not stopping the event sooner after it became apparent that people were injured. Without specifically naming Scott, Coon said the public attempts by some of the Astroworld defendants to play down their responsibility for the tragedy have been “terribly disappointing.”

“Anyone involved can at least temporarily stop an event when safety becomes a serious issue,” the lawyer said. “The fact that no company or person involved in this incident EVER made an effort to get it done here when it was obvious things were out of hand is shameful. “
