More than 150 girls refused to go to school because of the hijab: the minister commented on the situation

news-id-115407" style="display:inline;">Minister of Education Gani Beisembayev said that today the problem with schoolgirls wearing hijabs in Kazakhstan has been resolved, Tengrinews.kz correspondent reports.

In the Atyrau region, 150 girls did not go to school because they did not agree to take off their hijab. Journalists asked the Minister of Education to explain this situation at a briefing.

As the minister responded, in the Atyrau region there were more than 150 girls who did not attend school due to the ban on hijabs, but explanatory work was carried out with parents.

“You all understand perfectly well that the school is designed to ensure that children receive quality education and upbringing. Therefore, most parents began to understand and accept. At the moment there are no such questions. For other regions, I have no data on the number of students wearing headscarves. According to the information provided to me, there are no such students,” answered Gani Beisembayev.

“So you are saying that there is not a single child in Kazakhstan who does not go to school because he wears a hijab?” – the journalists clarified.

“In the beginning there was a problem. This problem is now completely resolved. Parents are beginning to understand that the first task of the school is to receive quality education and upbringing. We should not confuse one with the other,” he concluded.
