In the Czech Republic, the slowdown in covid-19 cases continues to slow. 149 people died on Tuesday due to a new type of coronavirus. Since the beginning of March, the total number of victims is 3,913. According to the latest data, there were 7,396 patients in hospitals with covid-19, which is 90 less than the previous day. This follows from data on the website of the Ministry of Health.
In recent days, the disease has spread the fastest in the Náchod region. In the past seven days, there were 991 infected people per 100,000 inhabitants, and 919 in the Pelhřimov region. The relatively best situation is currently in the Břeclav region, where there are 330 cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants. Prague is now one of the less affected regions, with about 411 infected per 100,000 inhabitants in the past week.
According to the Minister of Health Jan Blatný (for YES), the data for Tuesday and Wednesday will be crucial for the development of the epidemic. Despite a slight decline in hospitalizations, he expects their number to increase in the coming days, and any improvement in the situation will only become apparent in ten to 14 days. Hospitals have significantly reduced non-acute patient care in the last month and are changing the vacancies to coronavirus infections. As a result, spare capacity is declining more slightly than the number of hospitalizations is increasing.
Comprehensive testing begins in nursing homes
However, the number of infected seniors is increasing and their share among patients with covid-19 is growing. According to the Minister of Health Jan Blatný (for YES), the average age of patients with coronavirus who enter hospitals is also increasing. It rose from 65 to 70 years. In addition, in older people, the infection tends to be worse and will require more casualties.
Therefore, the regulation on comprehensive testing in homes for the elderly and other social services facilities will come into force on Wednesday. Tests should be repeated every five days for clients and staff. They will be performed by paramedics. The first examination should take place no later than seven days, ie next Wednesday.

However, the tests usually do not yet have the equipment. According to Blatný, there are more suppliers and the test material should be distributed throughout the country by the company Avenier, which has a network of vaccination centers. Testing will then be done by healthcare professionals.
Trade unions and associations of social service providers point out that medical staff in homes are often lacking. In addition, many workers are quarantined, on sick leave or with schoolchildren at home in the nursing home after the school has closed. According to the minister, homes must provide testing. If they do not have their own paramedics, they should use their contracted doctors.
Home workers should also receive FFP2 respirators. The state will send them three million copies from its reserves for the month. About 90,000 employees should share them. According to the Minister of Labor Jana Maláčová (ČSSD), firefighters will start delivering the material to regional distribution centers on Wednesday.
Babiš will discuss the coronavirus with the Bavarian Prime Minister
While in the Czech Republic the growth rate of the number of infected people has been slowing down recently, in Germany it is the opposite. Germany recorded 15,352 cases of coronavirus infection and 131 deaths on the first day of the week. However, Germany has about eight times more inhabitants than the Czechia.
On Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES) will video talk with Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder on cross-border cooperation between the Czech Republic and Bavaria during a coronavirus pandemic. They should exchange experiences with measures to reduce the spread of the disease.

Since September 25, Germany has placed the Czechia among the risk areas. A visitor who has no exception and does not prove a negative test for covid-19 must be quarantined for 14 days. Czech commuters have an exception from the Bavarian government, but in the federal state, from October 23, the obligation to have them tested once a week also applies. For foreign workers, the tests are free and paid for by the Bavarian government.
Since the outbreak of the epidemic in the Czech Republic in March, covid-19 has infected almost 363 thousand people, and more than 185 thousand patients have recovered in the meantime. Currently, there are almost 174,000 infected in the country. Over 1,220 people have died with coronavirus in the last seven days, almost a third of the total number of victims. There were 200 deaths last Friday, the highest in one day. 7396 patients with covid-19 needed hospital treatment, of which 1134 were in serious condition.
