Just before the end of the year, the police seized more than 1200 kilos of illegal fireworks from people’s homes in a short time. Large quantities of cobras, nitrates and thousands of firecrackers were stored there. Sometimes the fireworks had also been tampered with which resulted in life threatening situations. The biggest catch took place at the Dijkcentrum in Roosendaal, there were nearly 650 kilos of fireworks at a woman’s home.
Officers took a look after an anonymous tip came in. As fireworks were also being modified, the Defense Explosives Clearance Service (EOD) had to be involved.
The anonymous informant had indicated that many professional fireworks were kept in the house. When police visited the resident of the house in the afternoon, she pointed out where the fireworks were.
Subsequently, he indicated several times that there were no other fireworks in the house. Yet more and more was found at home. In total, the officers found 645 kilos.
Explosives defused
The Explosives Scouts Team was called in because there was a dangerous situation. EOD then defused the explosives.
The municipality of Roosendaal has imposed a fine of 10,000 euros on the residents. If they are guilty of illegally storing fireworks again, they will have to pay this amount.

Police also captured a large firecracker at a house on Wingerd in Geldrop. There, 142 kilos of banned cobras, nitrates and thousands of firecrackers were seized there on Thursday. The 37-year-old resident was arrested.
It was also a hit in Uden. There, a total of 250 kilos of fireworks were stored in boxes in a house on Hyacintstraat in Uden. The resident was arrested, the stuff was seized.
Police found 214 kilos of fireworks in a house in Drunen on Thursday. A small part of this was illegal. There were also hard drugs in the house.
Fifty kilos of illegal fireworks in the car
On the same day, three Belgians were captured on the A16 at Zevenbergschen Hoek. They had fifty kilograms of illegal fireworks in their carincluding cobras and avalanche arrows.
