Between 14 and 20 October, there were an average of 11,201 new infections with the coronavirus every day, an increase of 56 percent compared to the previous seven days. This is evident from the preliminary data on the online dashboard of health institute Sciensano on Saturday.

In total, 287,700 people have already been infected with the virus. On Tuesday, October 20, a new daily record was set of 15,432 infections. The previous day record dates from October 16, when 12,969 infections were recorded.
On average, nearly 399 people are admitted to hospital every day, an increase of 93 percent. On Friday there were 585 hospital admissions. Currently, 4,061 (+11 percent) corona patients are in hospital. Among them, 632 people are in intensive care (+10 percent).
The number of deaths rose to 10,658. From October 14 to October 20, 37.1 people died from COVID-19 every day. That is 12 more compared to the seven days before.
The positivity ratio, the number of people who test positive in relation to the total number of tests, is now 17.5 percent.
