After two years of pandemic that slowed down this activity, the 16th edition of the “Avon Walk to defeat breast cancer” was able to take place normally and in a festive atmosphere. The aim of this conference was to raise awareness and promote the early diagnosis of this disease which, despite being the main cause of cancer death in women, when detected in time, it is possible to obtain a cure in 90% of cases.
The event was hosted by TV personalities Dalia Gutmann and Daniela Fernández. In this, they offered the opportunity to carry out various physical and recreational activities, the possibility of taking dance lessons and enjoying a musical closure with the voices of Ángela Navarro and Huilén Currá, participants in the popular La Voz Argentina program.
Ana Inés Álvarez, Executive Director of the Avon Foundation said: “We are taking this walk again with the belief that it is necessary. We have not lowered our arms in all this time, but meeting face to face is important because it allows us to look at each other, recognize each other and know that we are not alone in these urgent conversations ”.
The 2022 edition of the Avon Walk was proposed as a challenge to respond to the slogan “Why do you walk?” and add publications on social networks with the hashtag #YoCaminoPor in response to this question and as a way to expand the campaign.
Regarding the answers that the official page has shared through its networks, some people “have walked for those who are no longer there, or for those who are currently experiencing the disease”.
In this sense, Álvarez underlined: “We can think of many reasons, because what unites us is our desire, that many more people are part of the 90% who can arrive in time”.
In each new edition of the Avon Walk there is a very significant moment for the participants, and that is when the lasso pass is performed. The executive director expressed: “It is the iconic moment of the Walk where one person who has already gone through the disease passes the cycle to another who is currently going through it. It is a moment of hope in which one conveys to the other that he is not alone. It is the importance of networking and it is the commitment that we take on with love to accompany us “.
In turn, during the meeting, a symbolic check was given to Lalcec (Argentina League for the Fight against Cancer) which represents the donation of over 30 million pesos to the organization for the execution of free mammograms at the Avon Mammograph-Lalcec.
In this regard, Rolando Castro, Avon General Manager for Argentina and Uruguay and President of the Avon Foundation, stated that “access to mammograms is not the same for all people. Our commitment is to continue to provide funds and alliances that allow women, especially those with fewer resources, to access a quality study ”.
