More than 10,000 passports at risk of being canceled

The National Superintendency of Migration warned that nearly 10,000 electronic passports are pending to be collected by Peruvian citizens who requested them, who run the risk of seeing these documents canceled and destroyed if they do not withdraw them within 60 days after their processing. .

Article 37 of the Regulations of the Migration Law establishes that failure to comply with the 60-day period for collecting the passport constitutes a cause for automatic expiration of the document, which results in its cancellation and subsequent destruction.

This measure would mainly affect the people who processed them in Lima, where the largest number of unclaimed documents is concentrated, adding up to a total of 8,706 passports, of which 7,217 are at the Breña headquarters.

Meanwhile, 175 travel documents are pending collection in Trujillo, 174 in the MACs of Callao, 132 in Piura, 131 in Cusco, 121 in Arequipa, among other Migration headquarters nationwide.

Peru is one of the few countries where the passport is processed and delivered on the same day, in an average of almost two hours. In the vast majority of cases, users collect the document on the same day and, in a few others, they prefer to collect it on a date after its processing.
