It is important to specify that the sanction of the drivers of vehicles that invade said exclusive road is the responsibility of the PNP. This infraction (G10) is considered serious and is punishable by a fine of S/412 (8% of a UIT) in addition to 20 points being added to the driver’s record, according to the National Traffic Regulations.
The PNP imposed 46 ballots in operations carried out, especially on Av. Túpac Amaru (near the Honorio Delgado and Tomás Valle stations), on Av. Universitaria (Belaude, 22 de Agosto and Los Incas stations), on Av. Alfonso Ugarte (Quilca station), in Plaza Ramón Castilla, on Paseo de la República and in Caquetá.
In 2023, in more than 200 operations on the exclusive Metropolitano lane, the PNP fined more than 2,200 drivers. The ATU pointed out that these interventions seek to safeguard the integrity of Metropolitan users and operators, which is why it urged drivers to respect the exclusive lanes for public transportation.
According to Law 27200, only PNP firefighter, ambulance and patrol units can use the exclusive Metropolitan road as long as they are in a proven emergency and properly equipped with their lights and sirens on.
The ATU will intensify operations in coordination with the PNP to identify and sanction drivers who do not comply with the rule, and reiterates its commitment to continue implementing urgent and concrete actions to improve public transportation.
