More than 100 people are linked to the May 17 outbreak here

TRONDHEIM (Dagbladet): – There have probably been super spreaders on Fire Fine. It is reminiscent of what happened in the pubs in Austria, says municipal director Morten Wolden in Trondheim municipality to Dagbladet.

The municipal chiefs have received an explanation of what is probably the reason why so many contracted the infection after the May 17 celebration at the nightclub, Wolden says.

– There has probably been a bit of singing of “Yes, we love” and probably a lot of viruses in the air, which means that many over several tables have been infected.

Mingling and singing

Communications manager Harry Tiller in Trondheim municipality tells Dagbladet that the infection detection work has shown that not everyone behaved according to the book.

– It turns out that there were a lot of people there, queuing and mingling, and many who did not wear face masks when they moved away from the table. There was also singing and everyone stood and sang, says Tiller.

The table setting also lasted a long time. From 4.5 to 5 hours, he says.

– If you are in a room for a long time, the chance of infection increases.

However, Tiller believes the restaurant has followed advice and guidance.

– But it is the behavior of the guests that has led to this. The municipality has now had a meeting with the restaurant, and my impression is that they have followed it up, he says.

There are still cases of infection related to this “environment”, he says.

Dagbladet has tried to get a comment from the general manager at the nightclub, but has not yet received a response.

– Neat and strict

Kent Ferstad (32) was one of many who visited the nightclub on National Day. He was on Fire Fine between 12 and 17 o’clock.

– I was there during the day, so I have no overview of what was going on there in the evening, but I work in the restaurant industry myself and am very aware of the rules that apply, and it was very orderly conditions at Fire Fine, he tells Dagbladet .

There was no mingling, and everyone sat at a distance in designated places, according to Ferstad. Everyone also had to register that they had visited the place.

Ferstad can, however, confirm that it was the all-singing of the national anthem.

– Otherwise it was okay and arrange matters. I have nothing to complain about, so why it has been such an outbreak is hard to say. But it was packed everywhere that day in Trondheim, he says.

Three days after May 17, he was called by Fire Fine, says Ferstad.

– The general manager called directly and informed, because I had registered. Later I received an SMS from the municipality. We had to take two tests and be quarantined for seven days.

However, neither Ferstad nor the entourage were infected.

– I’m very happy about that. I can not account for what went on there in the evening, but considering how neat and strict it was there during the day, I guess it has persisted, he says.

– Balls on

A few days after 17 May, a large number of cases of infection began to tick in to the traces of infection in Trondheim municipality. They have told Dagbladet about extensive tracking work, and people with very many close contacts. One of the infected had 78 close contacts on National Day.

– Now we are at least on the third level, if not the fourth, who is infected and has nothing to do with the May 17 outbreak, but who has met someone who has met someone who has met someone, and then it balls on Kay Skagseth (32), who works as an infection tracker in the municipality, told Dagbladet on Tuesday.

– Some of them have more close contacts than I have friends I think, and then there are jobs, restaurants and bars in addition, so then there will be a large amount of work.

– Unfortunate

The May 17 outbreak led to Trondheim municipality from Tuesday introducing, among other things, a bar stop and a restriction to two visitors in private homes.

– We have had several outbreaks in the industry, but you can follow the guidelines, and still be unlucky because someone brings the infection in, says municipal director Wolden.

After a long period without being infected, however, the municipal director believes that some may have let go a little too well in the time before and on National Day.

– It is the same thing that happened at Christmas. People started to think that this virus is not here anymore, so it’s just nonsense that we should not go out to party and have fun.

However, he believes that the vast majority think of infection control, and that there are now only a few in Trondheim who do not take the situation they are in seriously.

– There are some in the age group between 20 and 30 years who want to go out and party. They usually do not get very sick either. But I think what has happened now has made people think about, he says.
