More than 100 million Americans have not waited until today to vote, but they did so beforehand. This is evident from a survey of election officials by CNN.

At six o’clock Belgian time, the counter was already at 101,294,231 ‘early voters’, CNN reports.
Of those more than 100 million ‘early’ voters, about 64 million voted by letter; 36 million voters cast a physical vote, according to the US Elections Project election platform at the University of Florida. According to news agency Bloomberg The US Postal Service postal service is struggling with delays in processing the many letter votes in the three conflicting states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
According to calculations of CNN the 100 million early voters represent more than 47 percent of all registered voters. In fact, in twenty-one states and in the capital Washington DC, more than half of the voters chose to vote earlier than today. In at least six states – Texas, Hawaii, Nevada, Washington, Arizona and Montana – even more ‘early’ voters cast their votes than the total number of voters who voted in 2016.
Four years ago, more than 136.5 million Americans voted. The fact that the counter is already at about three-quarters of that number seems to indicate that there will be a high turnout. The US Elections Project expects a total of 150 million votes this year. That would mean a turnout of more than 62 percent, a record in recent history.
Nearly 240 million Americans are eligible to vote in the presidential election.
