More than 100 ballot papers from Dresden manipulated

In Dresden, investigations are underway following the state election on suspicion of electoral fraud. More than 100 ballot papers were manipulated.

After the state election in Saxony, the police in Dresden have launched an investigation into manipulated ballot papers. According to the police, unknown persons had covered up the crosses on several postal ballot papers and instead marked the vote for the small, right-wing extremist party Free Saxony. Manipulated ballot papers have now also appeared in Radeberg.

According to current information, more than 100 of them are fake. The State Security Department took over the investigation and reportedly seized two manipulated ballot papers. The “Sächsische Zeitung” had previously reported this.

The officers are investigating in all directions, a police spokesman told t-online. They are also investigating postmen and employees of two old people’s homes who could theoretically have been involved. You can read more about this here.

According to the report, the manipulated ballot papers were discovered in two electoral districts. “We became aware of this suspicion in relation to electoral districts 36011 and 36012,” a spokesman for the city of Dresden told the newspaper. The two electoral districts are located in Langebrück in the north of Dresden.

In response to a t-online query, the Saxon state election authority said that it is currently examining what electoral consequences a possible manipulation would have. The state election committee is expected to decide on the consequences on September 13.

In electoral district 36012, the Free Saxons did remarkably well. There they received 10.2 percent each with 59 direct votes and 60 list votes. Overall, the tiny party received 2.2 percent in the state election. The Free Saxons are classified by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution as a right-wing extremist endeavor.
