In the US, coronavirus case continues to rise with 21 states reporting more new cases last week than the previous week, according to data from Johns Hopkins. Only 10 states are showing a downward trend in new cases of COVID-19 – Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Delaware and Maryland, while 19 states are holding on to the same figure.

“Not only is the number of infections steadily increasing. It’s also because positive test rates tend to go in the wrong direction,” said emergency medicine doctor Dr. Leana Wen, as reported from CNN, Wednesday (30/9).

Level positive test is the percentage of test results that turn out positive. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended the test positive rate remains at or below 5% for at least 14 days before businesses reopen.

“We are looking at more than a dozen states with a positive test of more than 10%. And there are two states – Idaho and South Dakota – where the positive test is more than 20%,” Wen explained.
