The German Academy for Language and Poetry can use the renovated Olbrich House on Mathildenhöhe as an additional home. The previous seat, the Great House of Glückert, was vacated.
The city of Darmstadt is making the extensively renovated Olbrich House available to the German Academy for Language and Poetry as a new and additional domicile on Mathildenhöhe. As the city further reports, the previous seat, the Great House of Glückert, has been vacated. It should also be refurbished in the coming months. As soon as this has been completed, the academy’s team will in future be distributed to both houses in Alexandraweg. According to the city, the total costs for the renovation of the Olbrich house amount to around 1.7 million euros. The project is being funded with 100,000 euros from the federal government’s “National Projects for Urban Development” and 30,000 euros from the State Monument Preservation of Hesse.
“With the completion of the renovation of the Olbrich house, we are taking another important step in the systematic restoration of the entire ensemble on Mathildenhöhe,” said Mayor and Head of Cultural Affairs Jochen Partsch (Greens). The renovation of the artists’ houses has high priority for the city. Bernd Busch, Secretary General of the Academy, announced that he was very grateful to the city for the additional work space. Due to the increase in the activities of the academy and the enlargement of the team, the spatial expansion was “indispensable”, said Busch. jon
