Once again there were several accidents on the ski slopes in Austria. In Lermoos, in the state of Tyrol, a 9-year-old Dutch girl suffered a head injury yesterday after being kicked by a snowboarder (39), Austrian media reported. The boy also lost two front teeth in the impact.
In addition, things have gone bad again on the Hintertux Glacier in Tyrol at the place where a 28-year-old Dutch woman last week came to life. This time, an 11-year-old boy lost control of his skis, crashed through a ski school safety net and collided with two children and a woman. The 11-year-old was taken to hospital with back injuries in an air ambulance. The others involved suffered minor injuries.
Yesterday was the last day of vacation for many winter sports enthusiasts. Also, many Austrians had free time due to Epiphany, an official holiday in the country.
Collisions on the Giggijoch slope
Three serious skiing accidents occurred in Sölden. A 7-year-old lost control while descending the blue Giggijoch slope and finally crashed into a padded lift stand at high speed. He sustained serious injuries, reports the Tyrolean Tageszeitungand was taken to hospital by helicopter.
A 44-year-old German woman was seriously injured in a collision with a 13-year-old on the Giggijoch slope. The woman was taken to the hospital, the child unharmed. A 54-year-old German collided with an unknown man on the Tiefenbachferner, fell and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Skiing after the cut
A 77-year-old Austrian was also seriously injured in the Bergeralm ski area in Steinach. During the descent of the Nösslachjoch, a skier suddenly crossed, causing the man to fall.
The woman who interrupted continued skiing without stopping. Local police are looking for witnesses to the crash.
Incidents with the Dutch
Several Dutch people have recently been involved in serious skiing accidents in Austria. Two weeks ago, a 12-year-old girl died of her injuries after going off the track and crashing into a tree. On the same day, a 62-year-old Dutch woman was seriously injured after a collision with another winter sports enthusiast on the slopes.
On average, several dozen winter sports enthusiasts die in the Austrian mountains every year.
