More problems for San Lorenzo: Braida and Remedi’s injuries were confirmed

Both players suffered a serious knee injury during the Copa Argentina match against Vélez and were unable to continue playing. They underwent tests this afternoon and it seems unlikely that they will be able to play in the Copa Libertadores.

Total grief for Braida and a hug from Rapallini

After suffering a tough defeat against Vélez in the round of 16 of the Copa Argentina, San Lorenzo has two pieces of bad news for what is to come. Eric Remedi and Malcom Braida were injured in Tuesday’s match (they had to leave the field) and, pending the tests on Wednesday, they will be out for the match against Atlético Tucumán in the local tournament and are in doubt for the match against Atlético Mineiro in the Copa Libertadores.

The 29-year-old central midfielder, after a strong blow to the knee, was substituted after 34 minutes of the first half to be replaced by Santiago Sosa. However, Remedi’s case does not seem to be serious in the long term: the footballer told the coach that his knee locked up, as a result of a strong impact on the back of his face.

The 27-year-old left back has a more complicated outlook. In the duel with Vélez, he suffered a hard impact with Francisco Pizzini, who was cautioned by Fernando Rapallini, at 28 minutes of the first half. Braida was visibly in pain but refused to leave the field before halftime, which caused the trauma to worsen and forced him to leave the field in tears and disconsolate. Another point to bear in mind is that, after the strong tackle by Alex Luna in the match against Independiente on matchday 9 of the Professional League, the Cordoba native has been dragging the injury since then and it has worsened.

Finally, San Lorenzo confirmed that Remedi has a “sprain of the upper tibiofibular joint with bone edema in the fibula” while Braida suffered a “grade 1 medial sprain of the right knee and bone edema in the right foot.” Due to the confirmation of this tough news, the full-back will miss the Copa Libertadores tie while the midfielder is not ruled out for the return match in two weeks, although it is most likely that he will not be able to be 100% fit in time to face Atlético Mineiro.

San Lorenzo’s next commitments

After the elimination from the Copa Argentina, Ciclón will have ten key days to prepare in good shape for the second half of the year. With one less match, Leandro Romagnoli’s team must focus on the Professional League, where they have an irregular present and low expectations (in eight games, they have won only one match, drawn in four and lost three times). This Saturday, starting at 2:30 p.m., they will face Atlético Tucumán at the Pedro Bidegain Stadium.

The excitement at the international level remains intact. Although it will be a difficult task, San Lorenzo will try to advance to the next round in the Copa Libertadores, after facing Atlético Mineiro in the round of 16, this Tuesday, August 13 at 9:30 p.m. at the Nuevo Gasómetro.
