More nominations for Taylor Swift

Los Angeles – Pop superstar Taylor Swift is heading into the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA’s) in mid-September with the most chances of winning. With twelve nominations, including in the categories of video, artist and song of the year, the 34-year-old leads the list of candidates. The award presenters have now announced four more categories: “Song of the Summer”, “Best Group”, “Best Trending Video” and the “most iconic” VMA performance of all time.

The new category “Most Iconic Performance” includes Madonna’s 1984 performance with the hit “Like a Virgin,” Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” performance (2009), Katy Perry’s “Roar” performance in 2013, and Taylor Swift on the VMA stage in 2009 with the hit “You Belong With Me.”

Following Swift, who has been nominated twelve times, is singer Post Malone, who collaborated with Swift on the hit song and video “Fortnight,” with eleven nominations. He is also in the running for his collaboration with country star Morgan Wallen for “I Had Some Help.”

Rapper Eminem (“Houdini”) has eight chances of winning, Ariana Grande, Megan Thee Stallion, Sabrina Carpenter and SZA each have seven. Other hopefuls include Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Beyoncé, Dua Lipa, Benson Boone and GloRilla. Katy Perry (39, “Teenage Dream”) is set to receive the “Video Vanguard Award” as an honorary award at the MTV Video Music Awards.

US rapper Megan Thee Stallion (29, “Hiss”, “Body”) will be on stage as host on September 11th. In the past two years, rapper Nicki Minaj hosted the show. The trophy gala will take place in the US state of New York. Live performances by Katy Perry, Camila Cabello, Sabrina Carpenter and GloRilla have already been announced.

The awards have been given out since 1984. Fans can vote for their favorites online. The trophies depict an astronaut figure holding an MTV flag.
