Dresden (dpa / sn) – Saxony wants to support retail in the city centers on the way out of the Corona crisis. The city competition “Off to the middle!” expanded, as Minister of Economic Affairs Martin Dulig (SPD) and Regional Development Minister Thomas Schmidt (CDU) announced on Wednesday. Accordingly, to the previously awarded prize money of 100,000 euros, another 300,000 euros will be added this year and 200,000 euros in the coming year. We are looking for ideas on how the city centers can be revitalized and strengthened.
Additional money was made available for the competition during the budget negotiations. “The competition should be used to bring life back to the inner cities,” said Minister Schmidt. In addition to municipalities, dealer initiatives and traders can also participate. Cities can also submit several projects, for example for different city centers. During the lockdown, retailers repeatedly called for an opening concept and warned of shops dying, especially in city centers.
