More money for Salzwedel fire fighters

The commitment in the weirs in and around Salzwedel should be better rewarded and on top of that an incentive for qualifications should be created.

Salzwedel l The expense allowance with a view to the women and men in the fire brigades in and around Salzwedel is to be changed. This was demanded by the Left City Council already at the beginning of February 2020. “The Ministry of the Interior of Saxony-Anhalt has announced that it will increase the limits for expense allowances for members of the voluntary fire brigade retroactively from January 1, 2020,” said parliamentary group leader Ute Brunsch at the time, explaining the move. And accordingly, the stake money should be increased from 10 to 15 euros. The city administration should submit a corresponding proposal for all other expense allowances for comrades. “Volunteer firefighters sacrifice their free time and use their health on missions for the common good. In addition to our recognition, they also deserve the highest possible financial compensation under our laws, ”said the Left.

Two motions on the subject

On July 1, the city council followed the request. But as Marco Heide (Die Linke) wanted to know from a fire brigade comrade at the end of 2020, the increase has not yet been implemented. This in turn caused displeasure among the left in Salzwedel. And so the group formulated the next motion. This in turn refers emphatically to the retroactive increase as of January 1, 2020. Finally, on May 8, the state paved the way for this and thus created the corresponding basis.

“A request from the SPD to change the allowance for the city councils, which resulted in an increase in the allowance from 106 to 130 euros, made it into the statutes in just three months,” says an angry Marco Heide. And that compensation will be paid one way or another, no matter how active or inactive the respective councils are. In his opinion, the monthly compensation for the defense should have been adjusted at the same time. But instead of addressing the issue, he only received criticism from Salzwedel Mayor Sabine Blümel for criticizing the administration without justification. “I didn’t criticize the administration, but simply expressed my astonishment that two very similar processes were processed at so different speeds,” explains Heide.

The bottom line is that the city needed its time for this adjustment, explains Sabine Blümel the time between the application and the adjustment. And it says that the amended statute should come into force on March 1, 2021 – retrospectively to January 1, 2020, which is demanded by the left. Including the “bad boy rule”, as the mayor complains. This rule states that honorary officers will not be paid any compensation while they are banned from service or suspended.

On top of that, all those who receive further training should be given financial consideration. The aim is to counteract the shortage of qualified personnel such as those wearing respiratory protection.

The city administration’s figures for the new allowance for the weirs can be found in attachment the last transport committee meeting of the Hanseatic city.
