More money for employees in the food industry

Around 7,000 employees in the food industry in Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse benefit from the new wage and salary collective bargaining agreement, which, according to the food-gourmet restaurant (NGG) union, was decided on Monday evening.

With retroactive effect to May 1, 2021, wages, salaries and training allowances are to rise by 2.5 percent. According to NGG, a further increase of 2.5 percent could also be agreed for April 1, 2022. The wage and salary collective agreement has a term of 24 months.

For Néstle Wagner in Nonnweiler, according to the NGG, the term of the collective agreement is shifted by four months. There, wages, salaries and training allowances will not rise until September 1, 2021.

Corona premium in July

Uwe Hildebrandt, NGG regional chairman, speaks of a “good result” after “difficult negotiations”. With warning strikes between the negotiation dates and numerous campaigns, the employees of the food processing companies had set a clear signal, according to Hildebrandt.

The employees of the food industry had worked in the past few months under significantly more difficult working conditions due to the corona, but still ensured that the shelves in the trade were full at all times, according to the NGG. Therefore, a corona premium of 210 euros should also be paid in July. Apprentices receive 105 euros.
