District administrators in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will receive more money retrospectively from 1 October. Your monthly salary will increase by around €500 to around €10,800. After the criticisms, the red-red state government is paving the way for better pay, and not just for them.

Interior Minister Christian Level (SPD) justifies the salary increase of district heads as follows: In the current crisis and after the pandemic, they have an exceptional amount to do. City council, Court of Auditors and opposition have criticized the one-sidedness: the additional burden should also be borne by the municipal administrations.

The state government responds to the criticism

The state government is now responding to this criticism. Deputy district administrators and deputies are now receiving more money. Just like district administrators, they too are grouped a higher salary level across the board. There is also more money for the mayors of spa resorts and towns with fewer than 30,000 inhabitants. The condition is that a particularly large number of holiday guests stay there. The salaries of mayors also increase. So far, the city council could decide on the matter. This provision is now abolished.
