More insight into sewage water figures on the corona dashboard

The information on the corona dashboard about the sewage research that the water boards and RIVM are conducting has been improved. It is now reported per region how many virus particles have been found, converted to 100,000 inhabitants instead of per milliliter of sewage water. The origin of the sewage water is also better understood.

The STOWA, the knowledge center for the water boards, together with the CBS, the RIVM and the water boards have linked the maps of the CBS and those of the sewerage system. This provides a more precise picture of the origin of the sewage water that enters a treatment plant. The sewage water measurements from different municipalities and safety regions can now be compared.

Moreover, a better picture has been obtained of which part of the sewage water comes from households and which part, for example, from industrial water or rainwater.

The amount of virus particles is now on the corona dashboard of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport converted to 100,000 inhabitants instead of per milliliter of sewage. This makes it possible to compare the figures with other indicators, such as the number of people who tested positive, because these are also shown per 100,000.

The water boards and RIVM sample the sewage water at all sewage treatment plants in the Netherlands at least weekly for particles of the corona virus. For example, the sewage water of all more than 17 million people in the Netherlands is examined.
