More hope for dialysis patients

(PLO)- Hospitals in Binh Dinh improve the quality of treatment for dialysis patients in the province and neighboring areas such as Phu Yen, Gia Lai, Kon Tum…

Binh Dinh province currently has two hemodialysis facilities: Provincial General Hospital and Quy Hoa Central Leprosy – Dermatology Hospital.

Currently, both facilities are receiving and regularly treating about 420 inpatient and outpatient dialysis patients. In particular, these two units are places to receive and treat dialysis patients from neighboring provinces such as Phu Yen, Gia Lai, and Kon Tum.

My whole life is tied to a dialysis machine

At the end of 2018, Quy Hoa Central Leprosy – Dermatology Hospital (Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh) put an artificial kidney unit into operation. The hospital is equipped with three hemodialysis machines and treats 20 inpatients and outpatients. Patients undergo dialysis three times a week, according to the doctor’s treatment regimen.

Patient Tu Chau Trung (56 years old, from Song Cau town, Phu Yen) was treated at Quy Hoa Central Dermatological and Leprosy Hospital for nearly a year. Mr. Trung has chronic kidney failure, pneumonia and coronary artery insufficiency, so he periodically undergoes dialysis three times a week.

The effects of chronic kidney failure and coronary artery failure caused his health to decline. Before that, Mr. Trung had dialysis at Tuy Hoa Hospital (Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen). After the COVID-19 epidemic, at the end of 2022, Mr. Trung transferred to register for treatment at Quy Hoa Central Leprosy – Dermatology Hospital.

“As soon as I got information about this hospital’s artificial kidney unit, I transferred here for treatment. Here, I receive thoughtful care and peace of mind from the doctors and medical staff. On the other hand, my house is in Song Cau town (Phu Yen), moving here is much more convenient” – Mr. Trung said.

The demand for dialysis patients in Binh Dinh is very high. Quy Hoa Central Hospital of Leprosy – Dermatology has implemented dialysis for patients from 2018 to present. Every day the hospital runs dialysis for dozens of patients; is regularly treating 20 patients, both inpatients and outpatients. There are also many patients from Phu Yen and the Central Highlands provinces.

As for Mr. Do Van H (40 years old, residing in Tuy Phuoc district, Binh Dinh) who is receiving outpatient treatment at the Department of Nephrology – Dialysis at Binh Dinh Provincial General Hospital, he said that three times a week he goes to the hospital for dialysis and monitors his blood circulation. health index.

“Patients with chronic kidney failure like us are determined to “live” with a dialysis machine for life. Now 40 years old, I have been on dialysis for two years. Chronic kidney failure makes me no longer able to work, greatly affecting my life and my family’s life” – Mr. H said.

More hope for dialysis patients

Doctor Vo Thi Kim Ngan, Department of Nephrology – Dialysis, Binh Dinh Provincial General Hospital, shared: Because the number of patients is large and the facilities at the hospital are not as high as those at the high level, comprehensive care for patients is still lacking. missing a lot. Many dialysis patients suffer from metabolic syndrome such as pathologic fractures or secondary hyperparathyroidism.

Dialysis patients face many risks of complications and poor health. In addition, most patients who have spent many years on dialysis have lost their ability to work and have economic difficulties, so improving their nutritional conditions is also very difficult.

The team of doctors and medical staff at dialysis units in Binh Dinh have made efforts to access many solutions and experiences from leading experts and large hospitals to apply during treatment at the unit. The goal is to prolong life and improve quality of life for patients.

During the two days of October 20 and 21, through training sessions, technology transfer, and experience sharing at the annual scientific conference of the Vietnam Dialysis Association, the teams of doctors and medical staff of the multi-purpose hospital Department of Binh Dinh province, Quy Hoa Central Hospital of Leprosy and Dermatology has access to many specialized techniques in treatment.

Doctor Vo Thi Kim Ngan shared more: Through this conference and many previous conferences, doctors found that implementing hemodialysis adsorption is very good for their patients. This technique not only reduces disorders in metabolic syndrome but also reduces itching and pleural effusion… In the coming time, the department’s doctors will advise on implementing this technique for patients.

According to Dr. CKI Tran Van Dinh, in charge of the artificial kidney unit at Quy Hoa Central Hospital of Leprosy and Dermatology, through the conference, doctors in the industry have absorbed a lot of in-depth knowledge and issues. For example, the problem of overcoming metabolic disorders increases risk factors for cardiovascular stroke, osteoporosis, anemia, sleep disorders, and resistant hypertension. If these problems are not handled well, they can easily lead to reduced quality of life as well as increased risk of death in hemodialysis patients.

The 2023 annual scientific conference organized by the Vietnam Dialysis Association in Quy Nhon City (Binh Dinh) brings together 1,200 leading experts, doctors, and scientists in the field of dialysis. At the conference, experts shared practical experiences from the treatment process to provide more suitable solutions for artificial kidney treatment hospitals.
