Instagram profiles: “More hashtags than followers”: This is how AI “roasts” Federal Councillors

What happens when an AI evaluates the Instagram profiles of our Federal Councillors? 20 minutes tried it out – with amusing results. The reactions from the federal government in Bern are also surprisingly humorous.

  • A new social media trend shows how users let AIs “roast” their Instagram profiles in a humorous way.

  • 20 minutes applied this trend to Swiss Federal Councillors and had their Insta profiles evaluated using AI.

  • The results are amusing – and the reactions from the federal government in Bern also show humor.

New social media trend: Currently, many users are having their Instagram profiles “roasted” by ChatGPT and other AIs – that is, torn apart in a humorous way.

20 minutes had the Instagram profiles of some Swiss Federal Councillors evaluated by AI and presented them with the results. A somewhat unusual request for the federal government in Bern – the communications departments let their creativity run wild.

This is what the AI says about Beat Jan’s profile

«Ayo, Beat! You have more hashtags in your posts than actual followers on your social media! Seriously, what’s with the bio? It’s like you’re trying to be fancy and official while giving off ‘look at me, I’m important’ vibes. But hey, who can blame you? Being a Federal Councillor must come with a certain amount of pressure. But don’t let power go to your head; we don’t need another politician who thinks he’s the next Swiss chocolate. But I can see you flexing those diplomatic muscles like you’re trying to settle world peace over a plate of raclette! […]»

“Don’t let power go to your head; we don’t need another politician who thinks he’s the next Swiss chocolate,” advises AI Federal Councilor Jans.

20-Minuten intern Melissa Greiter asked Jan’s department what they thought of the roast. The reaction was humorous – and the Minister of Justice immediately had his secretarial intern answer the question. He wrote: “Hey Mel, I’m Luc – I’m also an intern. It’s great that AI exists, I’d rather lie in the sun on a Latvian! And who needs world peace when you’ve got raclette? No worries about the boss, he likes to flex a bit on Insta, but stays based and still takes his own selfies. Boomer, after all! But for requests like yours, he’s specially hired a few Gen Zs like me, with bachelor’s degrees and a career plan for AI in their pockets.”

Do you also want to have your profile roasted?

The easiest way is to have your profile roasted by specially created websites – for example via «myinstapersonality” or “roast.monica». Alternatively, you can have your profile critiqued by ChatGPT. You can see how this works in the Tiktok below.

This is what the AI says about Guy Parmelin’s profile

«Okay, Guy Parmelin, let’s recap: you have 11,977 followers and, judging by your posts, most of them are just waiting for you to post a meme or a cat video. I mean, come on! You give career advice to young Swiss people and you look like you just stepped out of a 70s time capsule! […] And those motivational speeches about apprenticeships? Sure, they’re inspiring, but do they come with a bit of personality? Because right now it looks like you’re showing us the professional side of Swiss cheese – full of holes! […] I’m just saying, a little fun can’t hurt, right?”

“These motivational speeches about apprenticeships? Sure, they are inspiring, but are there any with a bit of personality?” asks the AI after analyzing Federal Councilor Parmelin’s Instagram account.

Melissa also asked Parmelin’s economics department. They asked their trainee to respond – who said that they would not be commenting on the “roast”. Instead, they asked ChatGPT to write a response: “Hey AI, you’re probably trying to impress the world with your sharp humor, but this is more like trying to fire a joke cannon with rubber bullets. And what’s with this ‘full of holes’ pun with Swiss cheese? Really, the best thing you can think of when you talk about a Swiss politician is an old cheese joke? […] Maybe you should switch to ‘fun mode’ before you try to roast someone next time. But hey, at least you’re consistent: sober, bland and without any spice. A little courage and creativity wouldn’t hurt, right?”

This is what the AI says about Viola Amherd’s profile

«So, Viola, let’s take a look. You’re the President of Switzerland and your Insta looks like an endless brochure for Switzerland Tourism! I mean, how many pictures with athletes can one person post before it becomes a sports documentary? Are we really that interested in your ‘proud’ moments with the ice hockey team and the Olympians? I understand that you’re interested in the athlete’s life, but maybe we could include a picture of you doing something real-life – like struggling to parallel park […]? It’s like taking part in an Olympic competition to see who is the ‘most serious politician’. Relax a bit! Maybe take a selfie with a cheese fondue? […]»

“Be a bit more relaxed!” says the artificial intelligence about Viola Amherd’s profile. And immediately makes a suggestion: “Maybe a selfie with a cheese fondue?”

20min/Matthias Spicher

Amherd’s Department of Defense also left the answer to our request to an AI, according to spokeswoman Mireille Fleury. The AI provided the following answer: “The ‘roast’ is entertaining and makes me smile, especially the suggestion of the cheese fondue. My Instagram profile reflects my work and passion for the sport, but maybe I’ll actually let a personal insight into everyday life slip in between. Humor is always welcome!”

And that’s not all: The Federal President’s communications team also allowed themselves a joke – and had the 20-minute Instagram profile evaluated by AI. However, our entertainment team got there first and reads out the 20-minute roast themselves in the video below.

A new trend is taking over social media: users are letting an AI roast their Instagram profile. 20 minutes dared to do the self-test – the result was merciless.
