More friendly, Turkey cooperates with Russia to build warships and submarines

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara had decided to work with Russia to jointly produce jet engines, warships and submarines. The deal came during a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin entertained Erdogan at his residence in the Black Sea resort of Sochi after two weeks in exile following an outbreak of the Corona virus among his aides.

Erdogan said that during the meeting he mainly discussed defense and military issues with Putin.

“For example, we discussed steps to build a second and third nuclear reactor,” he said, referring to the Akkuyu nuclear reactor, which Russia has built in southern Turkey. Middle East Eye, Friday (1/10/2021).

Erdogan also reiterated that Turkey will not change its plans to buy a second round of Russian S-400 missile defense systems, despite the threat of sanctions from the United States.

“We even comprehensively talked about the steps we can take to (build) the jet engine,” Erdogan said.

“Another topic, we can take steps together in shipbuilding (war). We will, God willing, even take steps together on the submarine,” he added.
