Merdeka.com – The results of IDC’s research describe the dynamics of the position of smartphones in the Indonesian market. In its presentation, IDC said OPPO was the brand that dominated the market in the third quarter of 2021.
This top position is due to being able to maintain stable production despite a decrease in supply. In second place is Vivo. Vivo’s success in achieving this position is considered to be able to increase offline sales and maintain inventory levels.
“Vivo was able to enter the ultra low-end segment because the price of the Y1s fell to below US$ 100 while at the same time it took second place in the low-end segment with its Y series,” wrote IDC in a statement, Tuesday (21/12).
While Xiaomi, IDC noted that they are in the third position and are strong with a leader in the middle segment. In the past quarter, you could even say two quarters in a row, the company created by Lei Jun grew strongly because of maintaining tight supply and inventory.
In fourth place was Samsung, which saw shipments drop due to lockdown-induced retail closures and slowing offline sales. However, according to IDC, Samsung’s foldable smartphone was very well received in the Indonesian market in Q3 2021.
Realme is still in fifth position by maintaining its number of shipments, despite fears of a supply shortage.
Supply Declining
In the report, smartphone shipments in Indonesia were found to have decreased by 12.4 percent year on year (YoY). According to IDC, shipments only reached 9.2 million units in Q3 2021, amid channel disruptions and supply-side difficulties.
IDC said the second wave of Covid-19, which peaked in July 2021, caused a tightening that lasted during the third quarter of this year.
“This in turn caused a retail shutdown that affected the Java-Bali area and several other hotspots, so that offline sales were disrupted,” wrote IDC.
