A The Pokémon Company International revealed more details about the expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game: Scarlet e Violetwhich will be released worldwide starting March 31, 2023.
The new expansion offers an updated version of Pokémon ex, a game mechanic that includes Pokémon with a high number of HP and still powerful attacks and Abilities. Unlike Pokémon-EX from the Black & White and XY series, which were all Basic Pokémon, Pokémon ex from the Scarlet and Violet series can be either Basic, Stage 1, or Stage 2. Though powerful, Pokémon ex give up two Prize cards when they are defeated.
Inspired by the Terastal phenomenon from the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet video games, the expansion features Tera Pokémon ex with unique engraved illustrations that highlight their Tera Types. These new cards follow the same rules as the Pokémon ex, but they don’t take any damage from attacks when they’re in the Bench.
In addition to the newly announced design updates to the Pokémon TCG cards, the Scarlet & Violet expansion will feature full-art engraved cards that show Pokémon in simple poses and bright colors. The expansion will also include Rare Illustration Pokémon and Special Rare Illustration Pokémon, which will be able to show a complete Evolution line growing together. These cards show Pokémon in their natural environment and offer a closer look at their unique personalities.
Key expansion cards include:
- 12 dual rare Ex Pokémon, including two Tera Ex Pokémon with Arcanine and Gyarados
- 12 ultra-rare Pokémon EX and eight ultra-rare Supporter cards
- 24 rare illustration Pokémon
- 10 special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards
- Six hyper-rare engraved gold cards, which can include Pokémon ex, Trainer, and Energy cards
