Shortly after the murder, K. went live on the online platform Facebook. The suspect was seen in this video crying and claiming that he had killed two people. “Guys, something very bad has happened. Now I will go to jail for the rest of my life,” K. said at the time.

And not only Richard K. went live on the platform. His wife, Ingrid, also decided to speak to people on Facebook via camera. In the video, the visibly emotional Ingrid said that her husband Richard K. was ‘completely crazy’.

Later that day it was announced that what K. claimed in the video was indeed true. The new residents of the house, Sam and Ineke, had been killed.

Richard K. from Klazienaveen is suspected of shooting two people to death in the Drenthe village of Weiteveen. The 50-year-old murder suspect is said to have a firearms license as a hunter and sports shooter, but is also said to have owned weapons for which he did not have a permit.

‘Everything in front of the 12-year-old son’

During the first introductory session, more details were revealed about what exactly happened on that infamous January 16. For example, Ineke is said to have taken a child to school that morning, after which she met Richard K. on the way back. He allegedly cornered her and shot her dead. K. then allegedly drove to the couple’s house, where their 12-year-old son opened the door. Richard K. allegedly told the boy that his mother had been in a car accident.

When father Sam came into view, K. attacked him. He then allegedly stabbed the 38-year-old man, hit him on the head with the butt of the firearm and fired several bullets at him. All this in front of the eyes of Ineke and Sam’s 12-year-old son.

Statement Richard K.

The suspect said during the hearing that he wanted to make a statement: “January 16, the day of the terrible tragedy and the children lost their parents. The day my parents’ house was delivered to them. It should never have gone this far. come, but it happened anyway.”

“The lives of both families will never be the same again. A ruin. Words are inadequate to express my regret. It does not justify what happened. I hope that the relatives will find a lot of support from each other,” said Richard K.

K. tearfully apologized in the Assen court to all surviving relatives: “Children should never lose their parents and certainly not in this way.” Richard K. gave the children of the deceased couple the option to have a conversation with him at some point. The suspect says he is ‘open to this’.

A first pre-trial hearing will take place on July 9 in the criminal case surrounding Richard K. It is expected that K. will be admitted to the Pieter Baan Center in May.
