The Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, arrived at the City Hall riding a Citi Bike bicycle, this in order to encourage the population to get vaccinated as they will receive a 2-week membership from this bicycle rental company.
He also announced that, as of May 13, a drive-through for those who want to get vaccinated at Citi Field. In this way, patients who request it can be inoculated from their own car
Regarding the details about the program to promote the Streets Week, pledged to add 30 miles of protected bike lanes throughout the city this year; which will represent a total of 133 miles implemented during his entire administration.
He announced that by November or December 2021 five new boulevards only for bicycles will be completed:
- Brooklyn: Calle 21, en South Slope
- Manhattan: University Place (Greenwich Village)
- Queens: Calle 39, and Sunnyside
- The Bronx: Jackson Ave., in Mott Haven
- Staten Island: Netherland Ave.
Likewise, he emphasized that the MTA’s exclusive bus lanes are also a priority of the city’s mobility project.
According to official figures, there are already 28 miles of new and improved dedicated bus lanes serving some 951,000 riders daily.
He introduced Rachel Loeb as the new acting president of the City Government Economic Development Corporation.
Loeb emphasized that the economic recovery of the city will be a priority during his tenure.
Regarding the new indicators used to measure progress in the fight against coronavirus, the most recent data showed:
- Number of positive cases admitted to hospitals: 83 (29%)
- Number of hospitalizations per 100,000 population, 7-day median (NYS): 1.25
- COVID-19 reported cases, 7-day average: 774
- Percentage of patients who tested positive, 7-day average: 1.95%
