More danceable. Review of Aminata’s solo concert «Wild side» / Article

The singer Aminat became known to a wider audience in 2015, when she won the “Supernova” contest with the song “Love Injected” and won 6th place in the Eurovision Song Contest, for her debut album “Inner Voice” she received the “Golden Microphone” award for debut of the year and song of the year . Her first solo concert took place in the “Palladium Rīga” concert hall and the songs were in English.

Creating and playing pop music in Latvia is not easy, taking into account the fact that the majority of listeners still consumed and will continue to consume pop music created abroad, but Aminata has found her own approach.

Since 2019, when Aminata released the mini-album “Maiga vara”, listeners get to know her with radio hits in Latvian. There are five songs in the new mini-album “Savvaļas pāše”, released this summer, and the current single “Kur saule” – Aminata’s collaboration with the singer Būu – is currently the most heard.

In Aminata’s songs, the current trends of pop music, carelessness and humor intertwine with passion, romance and often heartache. These contrasts seem to create the necessary balance to make the songs memorable.

At the concert in the Andrejosta quarter, the singer invited the audience to sing along from the very beginning, which the audience did. The guiding motif of Aminata’s songs is exploring the states of love – a romantic relationship at its beginning or end, or self-love.

The “Wild Side” concert was built by stringing the new songs together with the well-known ones, a bonus for dynamism – a group of accompanying musicians. Aminata’s new songs are more danceable, and her voice reveals itself more calmly and in timbre shades. It’s new and unusual, as the singer is known for her wide vocal range, which lends greater contrast and emotionality to songs, such as this year’s Supernova breakup, “I’m Letting You Go.”

This year, the singer also has duets – released songs together with Boo and Shipsea. Both songs were also performed in the Andrejosta quarter. As a cherry on top of the whipped cream, “Love Injected” was indispensable, which remains Aminata’s personal masterpiece.
