Australia, with the declaration of a state of emergency, has the power to seal off cities and territories and quarantine people. Schools will remain open for the time being. Australians, like the Dutch, are already advised not to travel abroad.
Within Australia, the advice is not to go to areas with indigenous people. “Just as retirement homes should not have too many visitors, it is also important not to travel to remote communities,” said Prime Minister Morrison.
Less good health care
In these areas, health care is less good, making the inhabitants extra vulnerable. The government later publishes a list of locations that Australians should avoid.

China and South Korea
Since yesterday, 13 new infections have been registered in China, bringing the total in that country to nearly 81,000. The number of deaths rose by 11 to over 3,200.
93 new people have been infected in South Korea. According to health authorities, a total of more than 8,400 people have contracted the virus.
Figures from Johns Hopkins University show that more than 198,000 people worldwide are infected, nearly 8,000 of whom have died. Nearly 82,000 people have now been cured.
