There are again more than 1,000 people with corona in hospital, 58 of whom are in intensive care. Should we be concerned now that summer is upon us? Epidemiologist and vaccinologist Pierre Van Damme explains more in ‘The World Today’. Are the vaccines dwindling?
“The vaccines have so far done what we expected them to do, which is to reduce the disease burden.” Still, the numbers are rising. “What we see is that the enemy’s tactics have changed, but our weapons have remained the same.” The previous vaccination has been behind us for some time and in the meantime new variants are emerging, which ensures that the virus gains strength.
Still, we shouldn’t worry, says the epidemiologist. Listen to the fragment above.
