More concrete decisions desired – Denzlingen

BZ SERIES: Hans-Jörg Wössner is surprised at the lengthy decision-making processes in Denzlingen.

(BZ). Local elections were held three years ago. At that time, voters decided who would represent them on the municipal council for the next five years. Halfway through the legislative period, the Breisgau editorial team asked those newly elected to the committee what their expectations were and whether they had been met. Today: Hans-Jörg Wössner from Denzlingen.

“Everything isn’t always golden,” says Hans-Jörg Wössner. The police officer, who was elected to the committee three years ago for the Free Voters, says that his expectations of the work on the municipal council have only been partially fulfilled. At the beginning of the legislative period, he had to familiarize himself with some complex subject areas that had occupied the council and administration for years. “It wasn’t easy and it took a long time.” For example, it took him some time to get involved with the planned residential areas Unterm Heidach and Käpplematten.

He also wanted or imagined more design options and more concrete resolutions. “It’s seldom possible to really move something in detail,” says Wössner. “After my election, I was surprised at how long it sometimes takes for a proposal from the administration or proposals from the parliamentary groups and the discussion in the Council to become something concrete.”

All in all, the exercise of the mandate is time-consuming. After all, Denzlingen is a large community with a lot going on. “It just takes time. I wasn’t aware of that.” In addition to the parliamentary group meetings, there were also committee and municipal council meetings, and some lasted “excessively long”. He also likes to listen to the concerns of the citizens, so he spends at least 15 hours a month on the Council’s work.

It is gratifying that there is “fair and collegial interaction” in the Council. Sometimes his mandate overlaps with my professional activity, but this is not an obstacle, but mostly an advantage. Whether he will run again in two years depends heavily on his family and professional future. Until then, however, there are important projects that the Council must initiate.
