MORE WORKERS JOIN THE COMPLAINT

In addition to the case of Mariflor Castro, who had to pay on April 11, by order of the director of her area, Q288,900, equivalent to 5,025 doses of Sputnik V vaccines, the case of Sandra Mazariegos and Carolina Pineda, workers in the health area of the department of Escuintla, who in addition to them and four other colleagues asked them to pay Q22 thousand each for the expiration of the vaccines in their area.

Mazariegos commented that they were receiving psychological harassment that if the vaccines expired they would have to pay for them; He stated that it was now a reality because the internal audit was presented to his area due to the expiration of the biological Sputnik, by collecting the information despite having supporting documents in which he prevented not blaming them, in the same way they had to pay a sum of Q22 thousand.

“The authorities reported that it is due to loss of the vaccine due, even when the discharge was presented (…) about three weeks ago they informed us that we had to pay Q132 thousand divided into the 6 members that make it up: the area director, the financial manager, two people from the district, Carolina and myself. Due to the disagreement, a revocation was made by the director to re-evaluate, but up to this moment no response has been received, ”said Mazariegos.

Carolina Pineda, one of those affected by the collections, explained that in December she was a district nurse in the municipality of Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa, in which the influx of vaccinations decreased in December and biologicals were available, but for not have cooling equipment to protect the expired vaccines, due to thawing and expiration date.

“The coordination with the municipality, the private initiative, was really made, but unfortunately the influx dropped too much, when the audit report was made, a comparison of months was shown in which the decrease in influx is noticeable, and now the biologists want to charge us , we extend schedules, we look for strategies, we can’t force people to get vaccinated, “added Pineda.

RECURRING SITUATION

The Health Defender of the PDH, Zulma Calderón, stated that this situation is occurring on a recurring basis and that as of the end of this month there are again risks that more workers will go through the same situation, since the batches of vaccines that will continue to expire.

“It is not an exclusive problem of the companion of Sololá or the companions of Escuintla (…) we are concluding that the Ministry of Health is trying to frame the administrative actions when in the purchase, acquisition and distribution of the vaccines it is atypical, it did not occur of normal way,” Calderón emphasized.

In addition, he mentioned that it was important for the Ministry of Health to appear to clarify how they had resolved the issue of the Sololá nurse, “since it is such a sensitive issue, leaving it on the air seems to me not only to be disrespectful but also negligent.”

CASE OF MARIFLOR CASTRO

Castro commented that she was summoned for a meeting with the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) in the epidemiology room, in which only two auditors and two legal advisors were present, in addition to the director of the Sololá area, Erika Molina Muñoz, financial manager and legal advisor, in which they argued that the problem was directly with the director, Molina Muñoz, because she did not carry out a correct administrative procedure.

Among the solutions, they proposed annulling the record they had worked on or expanding it to carry out a counter-review because the authorities indicated that Castro had to request that he be given the opportunity to present the documents, although the problem was not Castro’s but Molina Muñoz’s. .

«I told them that I could not give them an answer at the moment, because I was going to consult with the lawyers if that could be worked on because suddenly it is an incorrect process again and I do not want to happen again, however, I do not know it has solved nothing,” confirmed Castro.

NEXT MEETING

Due to the absence of the MSPAS authorities, Deputy Dávila reported that they will plan a new meeting for Monday, April 25, hoping that all interested parties will present themselves and give clarification and resolution to the cases.
