“More Cold, Rain, and Snow to Persist, with a Possible Return of Spring by Wednesday”

More cold, rain and snow awaits us, spring will make an attempt to return only on Wednesday.

Under the influence of cold air of arctic origin, temperatures are 5-8 degrees below normal. Snow fell in places in North-Eastern Bulgaria and on the high western fields, the accumulated amount reached 30 cm. This was said by the climatologist from Sofia University, Dr. Simeon Matev.

It’s still cold today. Morning temperatures will drop to -3/-2, and afternoon temperatures – from 7 to 13 degrees. It will be cold on Friday as well. On Saturday, there will be partly cloudy skies without significant precipitation. Only in the mountains can it rain. During the day, the cloudiness will increase again and it will rain in Western Bulgaria and snow in the mountains. However, it will be warmer during the day with maximum temperatures of 10-15°.

After a temporary break in the clouds on Tsvetnitsa, in the afternoon it will become cloudy again, first in southern Bulgaria, and on the night of Monday and throughout the country it will rain, and in the mountains – snow. It will be cold for this time of year with maximum temperatures between 8 and 13°.

On Tuesday, the rain will gradually stop. On Wednesday, the clouds will break, during the day they will gradually rise and the maximum will reach from 12 to 17°. On Thursday, the warming will continue and temperatures will rise by another 2-3 degrees. There will be more sun.

On the weekends around Easter, the mornings will have temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees, and the afternoons 15-20 degrees. In the morning it will be sunny, there will be more clouds in the afternoon, short showers are possible.

Snow in April is not such a rare phenomenon, Matev explained. As the record holder, he pointed to 1997, when it was the coldest April in our history for the entire country. In 1996-1997, the snow cover in the mountains was 250-300 cm, Matev said. Since we don’t have winter when it’s time, winter comes when it wants, commented the climatologist.
