In the Germersheim district, more children are to learn to swim than before. The district administration has now signed an agreement with the German Life Saving Society, DLRG. According to a study, 40 percent of all elementary school students in the Germersheim district cannot swim safely after fourth grade. Apparently, some schools have difficulties in offering regular swimming lessons. In order to improve this, two swimming coordinators from the DLRG should support the schools in better organizing swimming lessons. The journey should be easier for the pupils and the times of the lessons should be agreed with the swimming pool operators, and finally parents should know about these agreements. According to the district, it wants to spend 50,000 euros on this. The cooperation with the DLRG has been agreed for two years.
