more beds for the Verdun Hospital

The modular building connected by a footbridge to theVerdun hospital was able to welcome its first patients on Monday (March 15). This relieves the pressure on the care units of the LaSalle Boulevard hospital center, which lost many beds during the pandemic.

At the start of the health crisis, the establishment reorganized its spaces in order to have only single rooms in order to reduce the risks of contamination from COVID-19. The Verdun Hospital, which usually has a capacity of 244 beds, lost around 90 beds.

However, with the addition of the new modular building, the place has 32 single rooms. Moreover, they each have a private bathroom. With the reorganization of the internal office spaces, the hospital will have a total of 196 beds during the extension work, which should be completed within three years.

The footbridge that connects the temporary building and the hospital passes over Boulevard Gaétan-Laberge.

The hemato-oncology clinic, which had temporarily moved to the CLSC de Verdun, will soon be on the ground floor of the new annex.

In addition, the care unit has been fitted out according to an approach adapted to the elderly and the offices have been designed to respect physical distancing. In addition, the modular building is equipped with secure access technology by magnetic card.

The 32-bed unit will not be dedicated to patients with COVID-19, however, on the 5the floor of the main hospital building already being fitted out for this.

Investments estimated at $ 32 million made it possible to set up the modular building. The aim is to accelerate the process of expanding the Verdun Hospital and reducing the pressure on care units during the crisis.
