More and more schools and daycare centers affected – Freiburg

The corona numbers are also increasing in the Freiburg area, but are still well below the red line.

. In Freiburg, too, the number of new corona infections has risen in the past seven days – but less than in Stuttgart or Mannheim, for example. There are always new positive tests from schoolchildren and kindergarten children. As of Thursday, ten schools and seven kindergartens are now affected by Corona.

The health department reported 16 new positive tests on Thursday morning: ten for the city of Freiburg, six for the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district. Both the city and the district remain below the critical mark – as is well known, a first warning level is set at 35 new infections in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants. This so-called seven-day incidence is currently 21.2 (previous week 15.5) in Freiburg and 26.1 (15.6) in the district.

In line with the nationwide development, the numbers are also increasing in Freiburg and the surrounding area. The 69 new infections in the district in the past seven days mean an increase of 64 percent compared to the previous week: The 49 cases in the city correspond to an increase of 36 percent. Unlike the “first wave” in March, Freiburg and the district are currently not in the top group of particularly affected districts in Baden-Württemberg.

The infection process has shifted over the past few weeks, according to the health department. Away from the travelers returning and the imported infections, towards schools and kindergartens. The list of affected facilities became longer again on Thursday. The ten Freiburg schools affected are mainly secondary schools: Realschulen, vocational schools and grammar schools. The Rotteck-Gymnasium in Wiehre now also belongs to them, with one case tested positive.

Since a profile subject was taught during the infectious time, 40 young people and 10 teachers are in quarantine, explained school director Günter Werner. That are many. If possible, the schools separate classes and groups as far as possible in order to keep the risk of infection low. But students from different classes sit in profile subjects. “We have to mix things up in order to be able to guarantee the offer,” said Werner.

In the kindergartens, the health department runs the Storchennest in Opfingen, the Kiga parents’ initiative in the Wiehre, the Grünschnabel Kita in Haslach, the Evangelical Kinderhaus Freiburg, the Birkennest Kita on the Haid, the Landwasser Kita and also the Alban-Stolz-Kita in Zähringen. A child from the group of three to six year olds tested positive in the day care center. Therefore, the parents of 39 children from two groups were informed on Thursday morning and asked to pick up their children. For these two groups plus several educators, the health department has ordered quarantine until October 20, according to Nora Kelm, spokeswoman for the Caritas Association Freiburg-Stadt, the daycare provider. On the other hand, children under three years of age can continue to attend kindergarten because the U 3 groups were outsourced.
