more and more hospitalized patients

The impact of the fourth wave of the Covid-19 epidemic continues to weigh on hospitalizations in France, including critical care services, according to figures from Public Health France released on Saturday.

The number of hospitalized patients is still increasing, amounting to 9,648 patients on Saturday (9,546 Friday), including 606 new admissions (836 the day before).

Over the last seven days, 5,298 new hospitalizations have occurred, against 4,574 the previous week.

Hospitalizations in critical care services, which take care of the most serious cases, also continue to increase, totaling 1,837 patients against 1,831 on Friday, including 118 admissions in 24 hours.

This indicator, closely scrutinized by the health authorities who want to avoid saturation of hospitals as in the French West Indies, had fallen below the threshold of 1,000 patients on July 7.

Between Friday and Saturday, 51 people succumbed to Covid (74 dead the day before), bringing the total toll to 112,658 deaths since the start of the epidemic in March 2020.

On the side of contaminations, 24,427 cases were recorded on Saturday, against 26,453 the day before.

In its weekly update on Friday, Public Health France drew up a “half-hearted” assessment of the health situation, observing a slowdown in the progression of the incidence rate at the national level (236 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), but which does not yet translate to the hospital.

The health agency also underlined a strong geographic heterogeneity, with a “very worrying” situation in Guadeloupe and Martinique, where contaminations are exploding and hospitals are overwhelmed.
