More and more drivers choose all-season tires – ᐉ News from Fakti.bg – Auto

More than half of European drivers who use all-season tires choose them because of the convenience they provide, as they do not need to be replaced twice a year. Another reason, according to a study conducted by Nokian Tires last year, is safety. 50% of respondents believe that all-season tires are reliable enough to be used all year round on European roads and meet the regulatory requirements for winter tires.

“The growing need for additional safety in unexpected conditions on wet and snowy surfaces, even out of season, is one of the main reasons why many European cars are equipped with tires that can handle a variety of weather conditions, ”says Katja Videnman, Head of Marketing at Nokian Tires for Europe.

According to a study by the Scandinavian manufacturer, European drivers appreciate safety in a variety of weather conditions throughout the year. This is an important fact, as weather conditions in Europe are extremely volatile, according to the Global Climate Risk Index.

Traction, good wear resistance and safety characteristics in winter conditions, in a changing environment, were also among the most important properties for consumers. Drivers who participated in the study claim that they choose all-season tires for two reasons: comfort and safety. One of the reasons why seasonal tire models are still preferred is the high price of all-season tires.

Convenience, however, is a major factor for Italian drivers, with 70% agreeing that it is leading for them to a large extent; followed by 63% of German drivers. For Poles, safety is the most important factor, with 74% of respondents believing that all-season tires are safe enough for all seasons; followed by the French and Italians by 56% and 54% respectively.

However, study participants still want some improvements in all-season tires. Their greatest desire is for manufacturers to improve fuel efficiency, followed by good wear resistance, as well as the purchase price of such tires.

As for driving in snow and sleet, especially Italian drivers (41%) have concerns, as do German and French (34% and 35% respectively), because they believe that the weather conditions in the places where they live still require properties. suitable for winter.

The choice of tires depends on the annual mileage, the age of the car and the type of fuel

Most all-season tires are fitted to small or medium-sized family cars, with 58% of these cars traveling between 5,000 and 20,000 kilometers per year. While the vast majority of German drivers with all-season tires (78%) use them in gasoline-powered cars, followed by 55% of Poles and 45% of Italians; 62% of French people put all-season tires on diesel cars.

Most of the respondents use all-season tires of cars that are over 5 years old, only 3.75% of all participants in the survey buy all-season tires for new cars. It is therefore not surprising that many drivers are considering equipping the second car of the household with all-season tires, which usually have a lower annual mileage.

The market for all-season tires is growing

The study shows that most of the participants in the study use tires that are less than two years old, which means that they still use their first set all-season tires. The percentage is highest in Poland with 57%. In addition, 77% agree that climate change and milder winter weather will make all-season tires even more attractive to consumers in the future.
