After “Morbius” received almost exclusively bad reviews, things are now looking a little better for Sony’s latest Marvel film. The audience is much more convinced than the critics and the story of the antihero could actually go on in the cinema – but probably not in “Morbius 2”.
In “Morbius” the seriously ill doctor Dr. Michael Morbius accidentally becomes a vampire while testing a novel but illegal bat-blood therapy on himself. He then develops superhuman strength and can communicate with bats, but he also has a strong thirst for blood. He first breastfeeds this with artificial blood, but the relief of the symptoms lasts shorter and shorter. To make matters worse, a former friend of Morbius also takes the drug and becomes a vampire. In contrast to Morbius, however, this one does not shy away from killing people for their blood and must therefore be stopped.
The mid- and post-credit scenes prove that Sony still has plans for “Morbius”. Be it a sequel, a crossover or at least a “Vulture” movie starring Michael Keaton. Either way, we’ll probably see Jared Leto again as a vampire in the cinemas.
With “Morbius” receiving mostly sub-par reviews, it seemed extremely unlikely that the film would get a direct sequel. In the meantime, the international earnings are at least looking a little better, even if we still think “Morbius 2” is unlikely. However, it could still be the case that another project is being planned. For years, a “Sinister Six” film has been planned in which Vulture and Morbius could play.
So it remains to be seen how the situation will develop. Should “Morbius” be a financial blessing, there will almost certainly be a second part. If not, we’ll probably see the vampire scientist again in another film.
