The undulating fields of Moravské Slovácko have an extraordinary charm: they are sure to impress the juries of photography competitions all over the world. Imitations of several pictures that Moravian photographers made famous on the Internet years ago, in an almost unchanged form, collect prices quite regularly. This time, the version by Slovenian Andreja Ravnaková was part of the winning series in the Travel Photographer of the Year competition.
Of course, people living around Kyjov know that they live in the most beautiful place in the world. The important photography competition Travel Photographer of the Year 2023 proves them right, the region of Moravské Slovácko was once again ranked among the most photogenic places on the planet.
The uniqueness of the South Moravian landscape has been known for some time, especially among photographers and travelers. For example, in 2016, the Condé Nast Traveler magazine included Moravské Slovácko on the list of the fifty most beautiful places on the planet (in subsequent years, however, it was replaced by other destinations) and list of the 27 most beautiful places in Europe we can still find him today.
Andrej Ravnaková’s picture taken in Moravský Slovácko is part of the portfolio that won the absolute victory in the Travel Photographer of the Year competition this year. The best of world travel photography compete in it.

Yes, again. Shots of the beautiful landscape of Moravian Slovácko and Italian Tuscany, repeated perhaps a million times on Instagram without any effort to find a new perspective, dominated another important photo competition (and that there have already been). This time they are part of the collection of the Slovenian photographer Andreja Ravnaková, who became the absolute winner of the Travel Photographer of the Year 2023 competition. Come to a notorious place, take an Instagram picture like thousands of others before and then win a recognized world competition? In my opinion, a fundamental mistake by the jury, which should pay much more attention to the originality of the awarded works.

With her victory, Ravnakova follows on from last year’s success of her compatriot Matjaž Krivič, who won the title of best travel photographer before her. When naming the absolute winner, the jury takes into account several series of images from the same author. This year, she was most interested in those by Ravnaková, which depict the harvest of hops in Slovenia and the undulating fields in the south of Moravia and in Tuscany, Italy.
“In this year’s finals of the Travel Photographer of the Year competition, I saw many excellent and creative photographs, and it is a great honor for me that my work was awarded,” stated Ravnaková.
Amateur and professional photographers from more than 150 countries of the world participated in the 21st year of the competition and sent over twenty thousand pictures to the jury for evaluation. “The winning and award-winning entries form a truly exceptional collection of contemporary travel photography,” write the organizers in a press release.
