The title says it all: When the moon is thrown out of its orbit by a mysterious force, it goes on a direct collision course with the earth. A thrown together troop is now our last hope to prevent the moon from falling on earth with a daring maneuver.
$ 136 million budget without a Hollywood studio
Roland Emmerich was able to finance the project as a US independent production completely outside the Hollywood studio system – despite a budget of 136 million dollars. The Chinese media company Huayi Brothers (also involved in “Aftershock” and “Warcraft”) is raising a large part of the sum. But other private investors are also involved in the film.
Loud Deadline The important hurdle has now been overcome to find insurance that will step in in the event of possible production problems – not a matter of course with financing without a large studio behind you and especially during the corona pandemic.

Roland Emmerich was able to announce a top-class cast for “Moonfall”. Donald Sutherland (“Ad Astra”) and Eme Ikwuakor (“Marvel’s Inhumans”) are joining the group just recently with the start of filming. Also there are Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, Stanley Tucci, “Game Of Thrones” star John Bradley and Charlie Plummer.
Halle Berry (“John Wick 3”) leads the cast. She embodies a former astronaut whose previous mission into space holds the key to the possible salvation of humanity.

Patrick Wilson (“Conjuring”) also mimes an ex-astronaut. He fell from grace after his last mission resulted in disaster. But even this could now be important for the salvation of humanity. Charlie Plummer (“All the Money in the World”) plays the teenage son of Wilson’s character.
A key role is also played by John Bradley, who replaces the originally announced Josh Gad. He plays a scientist who is as brilliant as he is eccentric, who is the first person to discover that the moon has left its orbit.

Stanley Tucci’s role is only known to be a wealthy car dealer who is now married to the ex-wife of Patrick Wilson’s character.
“Moonfall” is scheduled to hit cinemas worldwide in 2022.
