Preparations for the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monza began unexpectedly. The driver of the safety car, Byrd Meylander, lost control of the vehicle and ended up in the barriers.
Specifically, the accident occurred at the entrance to the last turn of the track (Alboreto). The Aston Martin went through the escape exit and hit the barrier after passing through the sand trap.
Both Meylander and his passenger exited the vehicle uninjured.
The barrier was repaired during the day, while the FIA confirmed that the accident would not affect preparations for the Grand Prix.
For its part, Aston Martin is investigating the cause of the accident. Despite the fact that no official explanation has been given for what happened, the scenario of a mechanical problem rather than driver error is considered more likely.
