New York artist BKfoxx has created a magnificent fresco on a building in Le Mans, France. The artwork, which pays homage to the Wright Brothers and the Bollée family, was produced from May 26 to June 9, 2023, ahead of the Plein Champ urban art festival.
Located on boulevard Saint-Michel in the direction of Coulaines-Le Mans, the monumental fresco on rue Henry Delagenière is hard to miss. On the facade of the building, there is a depiction of a little girl with an airplane in the background and a car below.
BKfoxx explained the significance of including airplanes in the artwork, stating, “Airplanes had to be included, to commemorate the Wright Brothers’ first public flight at Le Mans in 1908 and also La Mancelle, the first mass-produced car, invented by Amédée Bollée.” The artist wanted to bring these two families together as it was at the request of the Bollées that Wilbur Wright came to perform flights at Le Mans. There are also plans to dedicate a museum to these pioneers.
The fresco, titled “Thanks to my father,” features a message of gratitude towards those who came before us and paved the way for the advancements we enjoy today. BKfoxx explained, “It’s to recognize all the people who came before us and who did the work to make everything we have today possible. But also for me because I am very close to my father.” The artist worked on a 36-meter-high wall using spray paint and liquid paint to create the impressive artwork.
This is not the first time BKfoxx has contributed to the Plein Champ festival. Last year, she painted a little boy in his cardboard racing car for the event. Inspired by the theme of childhood and her own family, the artist represented her cousin, who is the false twin of the little aviator in the new fresco on rue Delagenière.
The fresco has garnered attention and praise for its stunning visuals and meaningful message. BKfoxx’s ability to blend classic and modern elements in her artwork has captivated viewers. The artist’s previous work and dedication to her craft have solidified her reputation as a talented street artist.
