Monument to the Soviet Army Dismantling Begins Amid Protests and Legal Challenges

The night in front of the Monument to the Soviet Army passed without incident.

After many years of debates and attempts to move the monument from the Prince’s Garden, its dismantling began yesterday. The decision is up to the regional administration and it is because of its bad condition, BNT reminds.

The items will be phased out and stored elsewhere after restoration. Yesterday, part of the tallest figure of the monument was removed.

BSP and “Vazrazhdane” stated that they will refer the prosecutor’s office about the legality of the actions of the regional administration.

Late last night, representatives of the “We want a Bulgarian monument” initiative came and lit torches around the enclosures.
