The monument to Peter R. de Vries in Amsterdam consists of two bronze hands that interlock. Royce de Vries, the son of the crime reporter who died in 2021, has announced this.
“It portrays the helping hand,” explains Royce to RTL Boulevard. The monument will be unveiled next July on the Leidseplein in Amsterdam, the place where the old studio of RTL Boulevard is located.
De Vries was shot two years ago after the broadcast of the program in a street near the studio. He passed away from his injuries on July 15, 2021.
On the hands are “rules of life” in 41 languages that De Vries had given as advice in the last letter to his children.
“I don’t know him completely by heart, but it says, among other things: keep your back straight and stand up for the weak and minorities. That is something that my father found very important when alive and thought it was important to pass on to us. ” Royce hopes the monument inspires people. “That they also like to lend a helping hand to people who need help.”
Earlier it was announced that artist Rini Hurkmans will make the monument.
