The lot of “historical and iconic objects” includes a toque, a rattle, an “education priority” ribbon and a necklace in the colors of the Autonomous Education Federation (FAE). There is also a “hand warmer”. It even indicates that it applies a 20% discount to FAE members.

Ian McMurray works in an elementary school in Montreal. He specifies that “the money from the sale will be used to compensate for the lost wages of the last four weeks”.
With the $4,000, he plans to pay his mortgage, his home insurance, his electricity, telephone and internet bills, groceries for his two children aged 16 and 18, as well as his session with the psychologist, lists he said in his announcement.
Maybe he’ll end up buying a few Christmas presents, “if there’s a small amount left.”

Relax the atmosphere and make you think
The idea to post this ad came when a fellow teacher told her she was taking advantage of the time away from the picket lines to sell items lying around her house on Marketplace to make money.
With his announcement, Ian McMurray wanted to expose in a playful way the financial difficulties he and his colleagues are facing in recent days.

“I expected to lighten the atmosphere, make colleagues laugh and also make people think a little,” he emphasizes to 24 hours.
If a large part of the population is sensitive to the consequences of the strike on the teachers’ wallets, certain comments read on social networks betray the lack of information of certain people, he maintains.
In two days, the ad was viewed nearly 400 times on Kijiji. Although he has not yet received a serious offer, Ian McMurray claims to have received several messages of support.
A strike that costs teachers dearly
66,000 primary and secondary teachers who are members of the FAE have been on an indefinite general strike since November 23.
This Tuesday, they began their 19th day of mobilization. Without strike funds, it is estimated that public sector workers lose approximately $315 in wages per day of strike.

We learned in The Press Tuesday that striking FAE teachers would be able to receive an amount “already taken from their pay in preparation for the holidays”.
Despite this holiday pay, many people in the education sector have testified in recent weeks, on social networks and in the media, to the financial difficulties they have faced since the strike began.
A new offer from the government was tabled Tuesday afternoon.
