Montpellier’s Lily Ramonatxo and Maëlle Millet challenge Helène Karbanov and Calais

The girls from the Pôle espoir Montpellier are competing in the French Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship in the North with their main rival, from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 May.

Calais-Montpellier. This is the match that will be played this weekend in the North during the French championships. A meeting that will pit Calaisian Hélène Karbanov against Montpellier’s Lily Ramonatxo and Maëlle Millet. Opponents for a day but also teammates and competitors in the France team. They were again last week at the Gymnasiades in Rouen.

Karbanov in front of Rouen

A competition organized by the UNSS which brought together several disciplines and 3,000 athletes who are high school students. The Calaisienne won the all-around, the ball and the clubs and also took 3rd place in the hoop. For her part, Lily finished in 3rd place overall, won the gold medal in ribbon and 2nd place in hoop. Maëlle finished at the foot of the podium on the ball and had to settle for 5th place in the general classification.

Ramonatxo selected for the European Championships

“Lily has shown that as soon as she passes without a fall and without fault, she is well in her head”, underlines her trainer Alexandra Konova. A state of mind and performances that the resident of the Pôle espoir de Montpellier has shown since the start of the season and which have allowed her to be selected for the European championships which will take place in Israel from June 15 to 19, with… Hélène Karbanov, Maëlle Millet will be a substitute. “It’s the logic of the notes on all the machines, she is the first Frenchwoman. There is nothing serious for Maëlle, she took the hit for four minutes but she is motivated and nothing says that she will not be not at the world championships in September”, recalls his coach.

Successful passages

She will be keen to show it this weekend in Calais even if Hèlène Karbanov will necessarily leave with an advantage with a competition taking place at home. In this context, Alexandra Konova just hopes that her protégés “do their best and pass their passages without fail. I want them to complete their program in full with all the content put in place”. If so, the medals will be there.

Shana Loxton-Vernaton will participate in the championship in the junior category.
