Since 1887
The AGEM was born on February 25, 1887 in the amphitheater of the Faculty of Letters. Its vocation is the representation of Montpellier students and the animation of student life in the city. In 1891, its first premises were built, it is the current Pavillon Populaire. In addition to the association’s offices, there is a reception room, multi-activity rooms (dance, fencing, music, etc.) as well as a photographic laboratory.
The AGEM of the first moments is a commitment, a local commitment but above all multiple! Sport, music, cinema, commercial advantages, social assistance, AGEM is on all fronts to develop the student world in Montpellier. In the second half of the 20th century, AGEM will mark generations of students from Montpellier by running a bar in its premises on rue de la Croix d’Or. She eventually died in the 1990s.
New association
In 2017, at the initiative of the Montpellier student associations, AGEM was reborn from its ashes. A new association was created on March 8, taking a phoenix as its emblem. It is now a federation which brings together many student associations from the Montpellier area. It federates this associative network and trains volunteers in the management of an association. Its mission is also to represent Montpellier students to improve their living and study environment.
