Equipe Montpellier
Return to competition for French clubs with the Coupe de France. The first two quarter-finals oppose: Montpellier – Dunkirk and Nantes – Saint-Raphaël. MHB gave USDK no chance (36-26) in the first match of the evening. In the second, the “H” dominated Raphaël Caucheteux’s teammates (34-25).
Montpellier dominant
Very early in the meeting, the men of Patrice Canayer widened a gap of 5 goals 10 minutes into the game (10-5 at 10′). A lead that will only grow for the return to Bougnol. Stas Skube marks a good first half for his return to competition after his long injury, suffered against Veszprém in the Champions League. On the Dunkirk side, the 4 achievements of Tom Pelayo will not have been enough (20-12 at 30′).
Sebastian Karlsson and his team started the second half with a score of 4-1 (23-13 at 35′). The difference of 10 goals allows the MHB to finish the meeting at a more leisurely pace in order to prepare for what follows; for them, the objective is not to lose more players to injury. The USDK was unable to do anything this evening, stumbling over a Rémi Desbonnet in good shape (9 saves, 35%). Even if they returned to -8 in the middle of the period (28-20 at 45′), the gap is made.
The step was too high for Dunkirkthe Montpellier players masterfully ensured their meeting and will see the semi-finals (36-26 final score).
Nantes unfolds
The “H” found its venue, but with a reorganized group for the reception of Saint-Raphaël. Despite a strong start to the match, Nantes took a 3-goal lead in the 5th minute (4-1). THE SRVHB did not give up and quickly returned to the score, carried by a Raphaël Caucheteux very good form this evening (7 goals, 7-7 15′). The two teams no longer let go at the end of the first half, however Saint-Raphaël was unable to take the advantage in the score. The reigning champions have gained momentum and return to the locker room with a 3-goal advantage (16-13 at 30′).
The Var players started the second period better by quickly equalizing (20-20 39′), everything remains possible in this meeting focused on attack. It only took 5 minutes for the purples to regain a lead of up to 6 goals (26-20). Some men of Grégory Cojeanas Théo Avelange Demouge (12 goals) and Lucas De La Bretèche shine this evening, in the absence of the usual starters, injured.
As for the first match, it is the favorite who wins, the Raphaëlois will have shown more resistance than the Dunkirk but will still end up losing. Nantesby advancing to the next round, are still in contention to defend their title (34-25 score final).
